Some alleged gang members are off the streets after a year-long, multi-state investigation.
Federal prosecutors in Aiken announced yesterday that 26 people in South Carolina and Georgia were arrested recently on gun and drug charges in Operation Gunsmoke. Many of the suspects are believed to be in gangs, and one suspect is accused of coordinating gang activity from inside an Aiken County prison.
Seventeen of those arrested are South Carolina residents, including eleven from Aiken.
