(Newberry, SC) -- A boy is dead after what Newberry County's sheriff calls a senseless act of violence.
Deputies announced yesterday that seven-year-old Iven Caldwell died the day before at a Columbia hospital.
Twenty-six-year-old X'Zavier Davis is accused of shooting Iven and Iven's mother, who is Davis' girlfriend, during a confrontation outside their home in Newberry on Cherry Lane this weekend.
Iven's mom has been released from the hospital, and no one else was hurt.
