The South Carolina Senate voted unanimously to require new rules for Uber and Lyft drivers in an effort to improve safety.
The bill was in reaction to the murder of USC student Samantha Josephson who was murdered after getting into an unmarked car that she thought was her Uber.
The goal of the bill is to make it easier for passengers to recognize their ride. The bill says that ride-share cars must display their license plate numbers on the front of their cars. The House gets the bill next, and it is expected to pass.
The law will go into effect a month after the Governor signs it.
