USC Board Member Opposes Having Vote On New President

(Columbia, SC) -- A USC board member is urging his colleagues to stand up to the governor.

Governor Henry McMaster has called for a meeting Friday to vote on Robert Caslen's nomination to run the university, which McMaster supports.

As governor, McMaster has the right to call the meeting, but board member Charles Williams says politics should not be involved in choosing a new school president.

Caslen withdrew his nomination to be president after critics complained he lacks a doctorate, and Williams says the board can find a better candidate.
