Sheriff Assures Parents Schools Are Safe

(Columbia, SC) -- The sheriff is trying to reassure parents their kids will be protected when schools open in Richland County.

Sheriff Leon Lott spoke yesterday in Columbia at a forum on hate crimes and mass shootings.

Lott said school resource officers are well-trained, and schools are safe every single day.

The meeting came two weeks after reports surfaced of a student who allegedly threatened a shooting at Cardinal Newman School.
