(Columbia, SC) -- A newspaper is sorry for what it calls an unfortunate headline about USC quarterback Ryan Hilinski.
After the Gamecocks loss to Missouri Saturday, The State ran a headline yesterday that read 'Hilinksi Hope Sinks,' which some took as a reference to his family's suicide prevention nonprofit called The Hilinski's Hope Foundation.
USC said it was appalled by the headline for showing a cavalier attitude about mental illness.
The newspaper publicly apologized yesterday to the Hilinski family, but USC said an apology isn't enough, and it encouraged The State to be a leader in destigmatizing mental illness.
