Lawmakers Propose Solution To Inmates Being Held Past Their Release Dates

A new solution is being presented to prevent inmates from serving extra time.

The South Carolina House Legislative House Oversight Committee says at least 40 inmates were held past release dates since 2014. The errors cost state residents half a million dollars.

To prevent it from happening again, lawmakers propose automating the system, so that release dates don't get smudged or become illegible when using paper sentencing sheets.
