Statehouse Receives Santee Cooper Bids

State lawmakers have received the long awaited recommendations from the state’s Department of Administration on what to do with Santee Cooper, the state owned energy utility.

Florida based NextEra Energy has submitted an approved proposal to buy the utility and pay off the remaining debt from the failed V.C. Summer expansion project.Dominion Energy, which acquired SCANA a year ago has offered to manage Santee Cooper with the state retaining ownership.

Legislators will choose between those two bids in addition to a proposal from Santee Cooper to reform and maintain control of the utility.
