Sumter County Deputy Dead After Being Shot In The Chest By Suspect

(Sumter, SC) -- A 56-year-old man is accused of killing a Sumter County deputy. 

Corporal Andrew Gillette was serving a detention order and eviction notice at a house along Thomas Sumter Highway around 11:30 a.m. yesterday when he was shot in the chest. 

He was wearing a bulletproof vest at the time, but died of his injuries at a nearby hospital. 

Police say 56-year-old Terry Hasty was the man who shot Gillette. Deputies returned fire and Hasty died at the scene.
