Midlands Towns Enact Curfews After Protests Turned Violent This Weekend

(Columbia, SC) -- A curfew was enacted for the state capital. 

The Mayor of Columbia and City Council unanimously approved an emergency ordinance to put the curfew in place starting at 6 p.m. last night. It expired at 6 this morning. 

This follows police response to a protest at the State House yesterday, and protests turning violent in Columbia and Charleston on Saturday night. 

Curfews were also enacted in West Columbia and Cayce.

In Columbia, four police officers were injured following weekend demonstrations. All told 17 first responders were injured.
