(Sumter, SC) -- A scholarship fund is being launched in the name of a Shaw Air Force Base pilot who was killed in late June.
First Lieutenant David Schmitz was 32- years old when the U.S. Air Force F-16CM Fighting Falcon he was flying crashed during a routine training mission.
Now, the Lieutenant David Schmitz Foundation is set up to honor his legacy by supporting those who want to pursue an education to become a pilot.
There is also a GoFundMe set up in Lieutenant Schmitz's name.
