(Columbia, SC) -- A soldier from South Carolina will receive one of the country's highest military honors.
Midlands native Sergeant Major Thomas Payne will be awarded the Medal of Honor today at the White House.
Payne was part of an effort, five years ago, during a firefight, to free more than 70 hostages held by ISIS in Iraq.
One member of Payne's team was killed in the raid, and Payne recently told Military.com his teammates' legacies will live on with this Medal of Honor.
