(Columbia, SC) -- Lawmakers in South Carolina will decide the future of Santee Cooper in 2021.
They were considering three bids for the state-owned utility this year, but the decision was put off due to the pandemic.
Santee Cooper officials say they have been moving forward with a reform plan in the meantime, including working over the next 12 years to pay off three-point-six-billion dollars in debt from the failed nuclear project at VC Summer.
A recent ratepayer lawsuit has caused Santee Cooper to freeze their energy rates for most customers for the next four years.
