Richland County Council Meets After Settlement With Seals Ruled Invalid

(Columbia, SC) -- The Richland County Council is considering their options after a nearly one-million-dollar settlement with an ex-administrator was ruled invalid.

Gerald Seals was fired as county administrator in 2018 for allegedly sleeping on the job, not consulting the council, and due to staff turnover. But Seals claims his firing was retaliation after alleging there were ethical issues surrounding some of the council members.

The Council had settled with Seals, but a judge ruled that settlement a violation of the South Carolina Freedom of Information Act. The County Council is having their legal team ask the judge to reconsider the decision.
