(Columbia, SC) -- The South Carolina Department of Education plans to spend over 84-million dollars to reopen public and special schools in the state.
The federal Coronavirus Relief Fund dollars will be spent on safety measures, PPE, hiring of school nurses, hiring staff to help support struggling students, and technology equipment for online learning.
The funding goes to districts based on their amount of students starting this week.
SCDE already allocated 194-million dollars in relief funding for schools between March and September, and another 50-million dollars for safety supplies and PPE.
