South Carolina Hospital Association Concerned Over Capacity Surges

(Columbia, SC) -- The South Carolina Hospital Association is speaking out about concerns related to hospital capacity surges.

The group says 26 of around 106 hospitals in the state have an occupancy rate of 90% or more as of New Year's Day. They expect the surge to continue throughout the month.

Officials say one of the biggest issues facing hospitals is staffing shortages, and some have asked retired doctors and nurses to return to work if they are able.
