(Columbia, SC) -- The full South Carolina Senate could debate the fetal heartbeat bill as early as next week.
If passed, the bill would ban abortions once a fetal heartbeat is determined, usually between six to eight weeks.
A committee this week voted against adding exceptions for rape and incest, making the only exception if it would save the woman's life, or in an instance of a medical emergency to prevent harm to the mother.
If the bill passes the state Senate, it would then be sent to the House.
Other states that have passed similar bills have seen legal battles from organizations like the ACLU and Planned Parenthood.
