First Cases Of South African COVID Strain Found In South Carolina

(Columbia, SC) -- Two people in South Carolina are infected with the highly transmissible coronavirus strain from South Africa. 

State officials would not release the names of the individuals, but did say both have no recent travel history. The state Department of Health said they are both adults. 

Three COVID-19 "variants of concern" are spreading across the planet and all three have now been identified in the U.S.
