(Columbia, SC) -- Legislators are advancing the South Carolina Fetal Heartbeat and Protection from Abortion Act.
The House Judiciary Committee passed it on a 15 to 8 vote yesterday after it already passed the state Senate.
If it becomes law, the measure would prevent women from getting an abortion if a fetal heartbeat is detected, unless the pregnancy is the result of rape or incest or the woman's life is in danger.
Governor McMaster has said he will sign the bill into law if it makes it to his desk.
