South Carolina's Fetal Heartbeat Law Blocked By Preliminary Injunction

(Columbia, SC) -- South Carolina's fetal heartbeat law is being blocked indefinitely by a preliminary injunction.

A federal judge made that decision Friday, saying the law that would ban most abortions in the state was "sideways" of the U.S. Constitution.

The bill was signed into law last month, prompting lawsuits from Planned Parenthood, a Greenville obstetrician and gynecologist, and a Greenville women's health clinic.

The state could appeal the ruling to a higher court to try and get it reversed.
