(Columbia, SC) -- South Carolina lawmakers are advancing the "Unorganized Militia" bill.
The Family and Veterans' Services Subcommittee voted 2-to-1 to move the bill to full committee.
Under the measure, any able-bodied residents over the age of 17 who are not National Guard members would have the right to possess and keep firearms.
The bill uses a part of the state code that mentions "unorganized militia" to strengthen gun rights.
