(Columbia, SC) -- The State Superintendent of Education is speaking out against the "Save Women's Sports Act".
The proposed legislation would ban transgender girls from playing on girls middle or high school sports teams.
Superintendent Molly Spearman says the South Carolina High School League already has a process in place for transgender athletes.
That process includes an appeal to doctors to determine if the student has any physical advantage.
Spearman says only four students applied for that appeal since 2016.
