Hate Crime Bill Passes South Carolina House

(Columbia, SC) -- The South Carolina House is advancing a hate crime bill.

The proposed legislation would add five years in prison for someone convicted of certain crimes motivated by hate.

A fine of up to #10,000 could also be added. The bill passed the House by a 79 to 29 vote yesterday.

South Carolina is currently one of only three states without a hate crimes law.
