Delta Variant Of COVID-19 Detected In South Carolina

(Columbia, SC) -- The Delta variant of COVID-19 has been detected in South Carolina.

DHEC announced four cases of the variant yesterday afternoon. Health officials are concerned over the spread of the variant, which is more contagious and brings a higher risk of hospitalization than other strains.

DHEC says less than 40-percent of South Carolina residents have been vaccinated against the virus, not enough for herd immunity.
