(Hampton County,SC) -- The Murdaugh family is facing a lawsuit tied to a deadly 2019 boat crash.
An attorney for Connor Cook says Alex Murdaugh used a "whisper campaign" in Hampton County to make Cook look responsible for the incident that killed Mallory Beach. Instead, Cook says 19-year-old Paul Murdaugh was driving when the crash happened.
Paul and his mother were found shot to death in Colleton County in June.
The charges he was facing for Beach's death were dropped at that time.
