(Columbia, SC) -- A judge has been named to oversee pre-trial matters for any investigations tied to Alex Murdaugh.
The South Carolina Supreme Court chose Judge Clifton Newman for the role.
He will handle pre-trial proceedings for pending and future criminal investigations in the deaths of Murdaugh's wife Maggie and son Paul, who were found shot in June.
This would also extend to investigations into the death of 19-year-old Stephen Smith, who died in a boating incident in 2015 as well as the Murdaugh family's housekeeper, who died in 2018.
