South Carolina Lawmakers Consider Bill That Changes Absentee Voting Rules

(Columbia, SC) - A South Carolina house subcommittee is considering a bill that would change the rules for absentee voting.

The Republican-backed measure would get rid of work obligations and vacation as reasons to vote absentee, and would require absentee ballot applications to include a government issued photo ID number.

The proposed legislation also uses a formula to figure out how many early voting locations a county can have, limiting each county to a maximum of seven locations at least ten miles apart.

The subcommittee is expected to discuss some amendments to the bill at their next meeting.

If they pass it, it will then go before the full judiciary committee before heading to the House floor.
