Study Shows Current Starting Salary For State Law Enforcement Is Too Low

(Columbia, SC) -- Governor Henry McMaster is calling on the state to give raises to all South Carolina law enforcement officers.

A recent study reportedly found that the base starting salary of 40-thousand dollars a year for state entry level law enforcement officers is too low.

The Director of the South Carolina Department of Administration Marsha Adams says that low pay is the main contributing factor to the state's law enforcement staffing crisis.

The new proposed starting salary is slightly higher, at 43-thousand-500 dollars, and the governor is calling for regular pay increases for Class One law enforcement officers.
