(Columbia, SC) - A family attorney is calling for an independent investigation after a man was shot to death by a Richland County Sheriff's deputy.
Irvin Moorer-Charley was reportedly charging Deputy Zachary Hentz with a wooden stake when Hentz shot him. The deputy had previously ordered Charley to drop the weapon and tased him.
Attorney Shaquana Cuttino alleges that excessive force was used because Charley had a mental illness and was non-verbal.
Cuttino says Charley's family plans to file a lawsuit.
