(Columbia, SC) - South Carolina Democrats are fighting to keep their First-in-the-South status despite new rules from the Democratic National Committee.
Usually Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina hold waivers to choose the Democratic presidential nominee before other states.
But the new DNC rule allows any state to apply to be an early state. The selection will be based on diversity, competitiveness, and feasibility.
But the chair of the South Carolina Democratic Party says they will be trying to keep the First-in-the-South slot.
