(Sumter County, SC) - A mother and daughter are facing charges for allegedly rushing into a Sumter County school to confront a student.
Sixty-seven-year-old Mamie Smith and 32-year-old Whitley Smith are charged with third-degree assault by mob and disturbing schools for the incident at Ebenezer Middle School on Wednesday.
The attack was allegedly in response to reports that one of their family members was being bullied, but it is unclear if the three students injured in the attack were intended targets.
The Superintendent of Sumter School District says they're reviewing safety protocols in response to the incident.
