COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) — The polls open today, but more than 600,000 people have already voted.
That’s roughly one in five registered voters in South Carolina, and that record-setting early voting total could be setting the stage for another milestone Tuesday.
"Early voting has been hugely successful, because it really just gives voters another option. Another option for voting," says Chris Whitmire, Director of Public Information at S.C. State Election Commission.
Whitmire attributes the large voting turn out to voters having more time.
There are more than 2,200 voting sites around the state, and nearly 150 in Richland County.
The polls open at 7 am, and close at 7 pm. Make sure you bring your photo I.D., and cast your vote.
