New Abortion Restrictions Being Debated By South Carolina Lawmakers

(Columbia, SC) -- New restrictions on abortion are being considered by South Carolina lawmakers.

Senate Republicans voted Tuesday to fast-track a bill that is similar to the six-week abortion ban the South Carolina Supreme Court ruled unconstitutional.

A separate abortion bill was advanced out of committee Tuesday and now heads the House floor.

That measure called the "Human Life Protection Act" would ban abortion from conception.

If either piece of legislation passes, they would be likely to face legal challenges.
