(Columbia, SC) - A new abortion ban is getting the approval of the Republican-led South Carolina Senate.
The chamber passed the ban Thursday on a 28 to 12 vote. It includes exceptions for rape, incest, the mother's life and fatal fetal anomaly up to 12 weeks.
The measure's passage in the Senate comes after the South Carolina Supreme Court ruled the state's previous ban on abortion at around six weeks was unconstitutional.
Meanwhile, the House is debating an abortion bill that would ban the procedure from conception.
