(Columbia, SC) -- Lawmakers in South Carolina are considering legislation that would make abortion a crime punishable by the death penalty.
The South Carolina Prenatal Equal Protection Act would amend the state's constitution to define life as starting at the moment of fertilization.
The measure would also make the state constitution's definition for "person" to include unborn children.
If the bill becomes law, women receiving abortions would face the death penalty, as the procedure would be considered murder.
