(Columbia, SC) - South Carolina lawmakers are considering a bill that would split up the Department of Health and Environmental Control.
A Senate Medical Affairs committee has held two hearings on the measure, with a third planned for next week.
If passed, DHEC would be dissolved and two other agencies would be created- the Department of Behavioral and Public Health and the Department of Environmental Services.
Similar legislation passed in the Senate last year but failed to get past a House of Representatives committee.
