Police Chiefs Share Concerns About Constitutional Carry

(Columbia, SC) - Law enforcement leaders are speaking out against a measure that would establish a constitutional carry.

The Senate bill being considered would allow South Carolina residents 18 and older to carry loaded, concealed guns without a permit or training.

Police chiefs from Columbia, Myrtle Beach, Anderson and Conway went before the Senate Judiciary subcommittee on Wednesday to express their concerns about the bill.

They spoke in favor of required training, and worried that the bill doesn't address mental health.

Despite this, the subcommittee voted three to two in favor of the legislation- which now advances to the full Senate Judiciary Committee.
