SC Lawmaker Proposes Measure To Increase Penalties For Sexual Extortion

A South Carolina lawmaker is proposing a measure that would increase penalties for those who commit the crime of sexual extortion.

Representative Brandon Guffey hopes the bill will protect children who are blackmailed after being enticed to send sexually explicit photos of themselves. Guffey is familiar with the issue because sexual extortion led to his teenage son's suicide.

Under Guffney's proposal, adults found guilty of sexual extortion in South Carolina would face up to 30 years in prison.
