South Carolina Senate Again Considers Abortion Restrictions

(Columbia, SC) -- The South Carolina Senate is again considering abortion restrictions.

They voted 22-to-21 on Tuesday in favor of an amended version of a bill that would ban abortions unless they are the outcome of rape or incest, or if the mother's life is in danger.

Republican Majority Leader Shane Mussey says South Carolina's current law, which allows abortions to be performed through 22 weeks, is leading to an increase in abortions being performed for those coming in from out of state.

More discussion on the proposed measure is expected this week.
