(Columbia, SC) -- The South Carolina Senate has passed a bill banning women in the state from getting abortions after six weeks of pregnancy.
A filibuster led by five female senators who call themselves "Sister Senators" failed to block it Tuesday.
The legislation will head to the desk of Governor Henry McMaster, who has said he will sign it.However, the ban is likely to be challenged by abortion-rights activists in court.
The ban comes after last year's overturning of Roe v. Wade, and several other southern states are working to pass similar bans.
