The Kershaw County Detention Center is almost three times over its maximum capacity.
That's according to elected officials, who spoke about the maximum-security jail in Camden at a Kershaw County Council meeting this week. Findings made public at the meeting say the jail is in violation of living standards set by the South Carolina Department of Corrections.
An architectural firm is now working on a plan to construct a new facility- it's expected to cost a minimum of 10-million dollars.
