(Arlington, VA)-- There are still questions after a Marine Corps F-35 disappeared for hours when a pilot ejected over South Carolina Sunday.
Randolph White, who lives in Williamsburg County -- around 100 miles north of Charleston -- where debris from the plane was eventually found, says he actually heard the plane fly over and crash.
The incident has raised questions about how the military could lose a multi-million-dollar fighter jet.
A spokesperson from Joint Base Charleston, where the aircraft was based, said the plane's transponder wasn't working for an as-yet undetermined reason, making it nearly impossible to track.
The pilot was taken to a local medical facility in stable condition.
