(Columbia, SC)-- The U.S. Supreme Court will hear arguments on a South Carolina redistricting issue this week.
It's part of a legal battle over the redistricting of South Carolina's First Congressional District, which was redrawn in 2020.
The new map splits Charleston County voters between the First and Sixth Congressional Districts.Civil rights groups opposed the redrawing, alleging it is racial gerrymandering.
A federal three-judge panel previously ruled that the boundaries were intentionally manipulated to the disadvantage of Black voters.
