2 State Lawmakers File Separate Bills Proposing Minimum Salary For Teachers

Two South Carolina lawmakers are pre-filing bills in an effort to establish a minimum salary for teachers.

Representative Joseph H. Jefferson wants new teachers to receive 52-thousand dollars annually. Representative Wendell Gilliard pre-filed a separate bill proposing new teachers receive at least 70-thousand dollars in pay each year.

If either bill is voted into law when state legislators return to session next month, it would take effect in the 2024-2025 school year.
