Senate Considering Measure To Reduce Detainment For Non-Violent Youth

(Columbia, SC) - South Carolina lawmakers are considering a bill to reduce the number of non-violent youth offenders who are being detained in the state.

Under current law, children can be arrested or detained for running away from home, truancy, or having alcohol.

A bill in the South Carolina Senate would differentiate those offenses from criminal offenses.

The measure needs to be approved by the full Judiciary Committee before it would advance to the Senate floor.
