(Columbia, SC)-- South Carolina's law against price gouging is in effect.
Attorney General Alan Wilson made the announcement Sunday after Governor McMaster declared a state of emergency for Debby.
Wilson says the law prohibits unconscionable prices during times of disaster, and will stay in effect until the state of emergency ends.
Anyone found price gouging can face misdemeanor excessive pricing charges, which could result in a one-thousand-dollar fine or 30 days in jail.
