(Greenville County, SC)- The South Carolina Supreme Court is denying an emergency motion made on behalf of a death row inmate set for execution.
Freddie Owens is scheduled for lethal injection today.
His attorneys filed an emergency motion Thursday, citing a new affidavit signed by a co-defendant of Owens, claiming Owens did not kill Irene Graves during a robbery in Greenville County in 1997.
Now, the only way Owens' execution will be halted is if Governor McMaster grants him clemency - that decision is expected to be made shortly before the 6 p.m. execution.
