SC Supreme Court Puts Temporary Pause On Pay Raise For Lawmakers

(Columbia, SC) - The South Carolina Supreme Court is putting a temporary pause on proposed pay raises for state lawmakers. On Wednesday, the state's highest court granted a preliminary injunction in response to a lawsuit filed by Senator Wes Climer. The suit aims to stop a provision in the state budget that would increase lawmakers' monthly stipend for in-district expenses from one-thousand dollars to 25-hundred. Climer argues it is unconstitutional for lawmakers to raise their own pay before an election - and should not be done by a budget amendment.
