(Columbia, SC) - A death row inmate is set for execution by firing squad in South Carolina today. Mikal Mahdi was given the death penalty for killing an off-duty Orangeburg officer. He's set to be executed at 6 p.m.-- the second death by firing squad in the state in under 40 days. Mahdi has filed a petition for clemency with Governor McMaster, who has not granted clemency to any death row inmate since the state resumed executions last year.
