A large majority of viewers reportedly approved President Donald Trump's joint address to Congress Tuesday (March 4) night, according to a CBS News/YouGov flash poll conducted immediately after the broadcast.

The survey showed that 76% of viewers included in the survey approved Trump's speech while 23% disapproved. Additionally, 68% of respondents said the speech made them feel "hopeful" and 54% said they felt "proud," while 27% said they were "worried" and 16% responded with "angry."

When asked to describe how Trump came off in the speech, 74% of respondents said he was both "presidential" and "entertaining" while 71% said he was "inspiring," 62% responded with "unifying" and 46% said he was "divisive." A majority 68% also believed that Trump appeared to have a clear plan for inflation, while 77% approved of his plans for the waste in government spending and immigration, as well as 73% in favor of his plans for the Russia-Ukraine war and another 65% supporting his tariffs on foreign goods.

CBS News acknowledged that viewership was heavily Republican, as a president typically draws a more partisan crowd, with 51% of respondents identifying as Republicans, 27% claiming to be Independents and 20% saying they were Democrats. The CBS News survey included 1,207 interviews from American voters who watched the live broadcast of Trump's address to Congress, having followed an initial survey conducted by YouGov between February 28 and March 3, 2025 using a sample of 11,406 respondents, including 4,131 who said they intended to watch the address to Congress.
